Shalom KS,

My name is Emilie Botbol and I am thrilled to be starting as the new Youth Director at Kehillat Shalom. Since sixth grade I have been an active member of Kadima and USY and the USCJ youth movement continues to hold a special place in my heart. I have fond memories of my experiences in the program and in this new position, I hope to create memorable moments for the KS youth.

It’s been a long journey home to Chicago and Kehillat Shalom has created a very welcoming environment to come back to. Since I graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I worked as an aide in the kindergarten at the Sager Solomon Schechter Day School in Northbrook and then spent five months volunteering in Kathmandu, Nepal. In Nepal I volunteered through an Israeli INGO (international nongovernmental organization) to open a daycare center for children and to help improve the health education at a local school.

I truly enjoyed my travels and now that I am back, I’m more excited than ever to get back to a year of incredible and innovative youth programming. KS offers the youth community the opportunity to get involved in Rishonim (K-2^nd grades), Shalom Club (3^rd-5^th grades), Kadima (6^th-8^th grades), and USY (9^th-12^th grades). This year we have a packed schedule full of exciting and electrifying events bringing back your old favorites as well as numerous new ideas. Some programs to look forward to include sports such as broomball, holiday celebrations, regional and international conventions, social action and tikun olam events, family-friendly outings and more!

This new year promises to be one of the best in KS history. I hope you’ll join us in making this year a success!
